The Studio

Three constants of the house.

Three rules we hold through every project — however large, however quiet, however deep the schedule.

i.

One studio,
one language.

Every room is drawn by the same hand. Hardware, joinery, finish, light — chosen as one line, not a collage of specifications. We do not hand off between trades or taste.

ii.

Materials first,
finishes after.

We agree the material before we agree the finish — because a decision of wood, metal and glass is a decision of the room. Everything else resolves after.

iii.

Installed by the people
who measured.

The same team that measured your home carries the piece in. No subcontract chain, no handoff. A warranty you can call in Los Angeles.

Capabilities

Wood, metal and glass — resolved as one composition.

We work in three materials and the fittings that join them. Within a single project, every door, drawer front, railing, panel and surface is drawn by the same hand and made by the same workshop — so the interior reads as one object, not a collage of suppliers.

I.

Wood

Solid Timber & Veneer

Cabinetry and joinery in solid oak, walnut, ash and hand-matched veneers. Shadow-gap carcasses, soft-close hardware, and finishes developed in-house — from raw-oil matte to lacquered satin.

  • Custom kitchens
  • Wardrobes & dressing rooms
  • Bathroom vanities
  • Built-ins & shelving
  • Wall panels & wainscoting
  • Interior doors
  • Dining tables & one-off pieces
II.

Metal

Brass & Blackened Steel

Fine metalwork fabricated and finished alongside the joinery — hand-patinated brass, blackened and waxed steel, bronze pulls — detailed to the fraction of a millimetre, so hardware reads as part of the piece, not applied to it.

  • Staircase stringers & balustrades
  • Framing for glass partitions
  • Custom pulls, inlays & trims
  • Shelving systems & legs
  • Fireplace surrounds
  • Media walls & display cabinets
III.

Glass

Clear, Reeded & Antiqued

Architectural glass integrated into joinery and framing — slim-profile railings, fluted partitions, antiqued panels for cabinets, and minimal pivot doors. Specified and installed with the surrounding wood and metal in a single schedule.

  • Glass railings & guardrails
  • Room partitions & pivot doors
  • Reeded & fluted cabinet fronts
  • Antiqued mirror panels
  • Shower enclosures (custom)
  • Display vitrines
Materials

A palette, carried across the room.

Every project begins with a small set of materials — specified together, sampled together, and carried into every piece in the space. Below, the families we work in most.

i.

American Walnut

Rift-sawn, oiled or hand-rubbed lacquer. For kitchens, built-ins and dining tables.

ii.

White Oak

Quarter-sawn, limed or smoked finishes. Wardrobes, panelling and interior doors.

iii.

Hand-Patinated Brass

Developed in-house. For pulls, inlays, trims and fine fittings.

iv.

Blackened & Bronzed Steel

Staircase stringers, railings, framing for glass partitions.

v.

Fluted & Reeded Glass

Cabinet fronts, partitions and pivot doors — slim profile, warm tone.

vi.

Travertine & Marble

Single-slab surfaces for vanities, table tops and feature walls.

Process

Five considered steps,
from first conversation to final install.

Our process is designed to feel calm. You deal with the same small team from the first conversation to the final installation — no handoffs, no subcontractor chains. Every project runs on a single schedule across design, fabrication and install.

01.

Consultation

A conversation in your home, our studio or online — to understand the architecture, the brief and the pieces you have in mind.

02.

Measurement in LA

Our team measures on site in Los Angeles, with the same precision used in our drawings — every alcove, service line and sight-line recorded.

03.

Design & Shop Drawings

We present a design, material palette and finish samples. Once approved, every piece is detailed to shop-drawing precision for fabrication.

04.

Crafting

Smaller pieces and quieter projects are made in our Los Angeles workshop on modern CNC machinery. Large and complex work is built in our European atelier, where ten to sixteen weeks from approved drawings is the premium norm.

05.

Delivery & Installation

Delivered and installed in Los Angeles by our own team. Protective floor coverings, a tidy site, and a final walk-through before we close the project.

Timelines are stated at the start of a project and held. A piece that leaves the European atelier takes the time it takes — we would rather deliver one month late to our drawings than one day early to a compromise.

We think of furniture as the quietest architecture — the part of a room that the eye settles on last, and the hand touches first.

For Designers & Architects

A quiet maker,
working behind your drawings.

Designers and architects are our primary channel. We build to your specification, protect your relationship with your client, and credit the design where it belongs — to you.

  • i.
    Dedicated production in two workshops

Capacity for ongoing projects without compromising lead times on either side of the ocean.

  • ii.
    Shop drawings for every piece

Detailed to a standard your contractor and architect can build against — not a sketch, a document.

  • iii.
    Finish samples & material boards

Veneers, solids, patinated metals and glass, prepared on request for client presentations.

  • iv.
    Premium European hardware

Blum, Hettich and comparable fittings, specified as standard. Upgrades and alternative systems available.

  • v.
    Reliable local installation

Installed in Los Angeles by our own team — the same people from first measure to final adjustment.

The Atelier

Two workshops.
One standard.

Hollis & Grant works out of two complementary workshops. Each project is placed where it will be made best — and both are served by the same studio in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Workshop

Measured, made and installed — close to home.

Our LA workshop handles the quieter, faster work: cabinetry, built-ins, panelled walls, standalone pieces and prototypes. Modern CNC machinery sits alongside a traditional joinery bench, and projects move from design to installation on a tighter cycle.

  • Modern CNC and joinery, side by side
  • In-house finishing and quality control
  • Faster lead times for cabinetry and built-ins
  • Direct handover to our installation team

Our European Atelier

Where the largest work is made.

Our European atelier is reserved for the most ambitious work: full kitchens, grand staircases, panelled rooms and architectural one-offs. Pieces are built, dry-fitted and finished under supervision, then crated and delivered to Los Angeles for installation by our own team.

  • Craftsmen with a lifetime in architectural joinery
  • Hand finishing and intricate veneer work
  • Full dry-assembly before shipping
  • 10–16 weeks from approved drawings — our premium norm
“We build quietly. The object should say more than the maker — and nothing in a room should look like it was ordered from a catalogue.”

Frequently Asked

A few things
to know in advance.

We share the longer answers in person. These are the questions we hear most often before a first consultation.

How long does a project take?

Projects made in our Los Angeles workshop — cabinetry, built-ins, standalone pieces — generally move faster, with timelines confirmed at the end of the design phase.

Larger and more complex projects are built in our European atelier and run ten to sixteen weeks from the day drawings are approved, plus installation. We state a schedule at the start and plan the project around holding it.

How does measurement work?

After the initial consultation and a signed design agreement, our team measures on site in Los Angeles — recording the architecture, service lines, floor and ceiling variation, and any adjacent conditions. Those measurements go directly into the shop drawings; nothing is estimated.

For projects made in our European atelier, we re-measure at critical points after construction progress — before cabinetry is cut, so everything lands cleanly on installation day.

What hardware do you use?

Premium European hardware as standard — Blum, Hettich and comparable systems — specified to the piece, the weight it carries and the way it will be used. Hinges, runners and lifts are chosen so doors and drawers move the same way in year ten as they do on opening day.

Custom pulls and visible hardware are fabricated in-house in brass, bronze or blackened steel, finished to match the room.

Do you offer a warranty and local service?

Yes. Every piece is delivered with a written warranty covering materials, hardware and installation. Because installation is performed by our own LA team, warranty and aftercare are handled locally — not routed through an overseas partner or a general contractor.

Small adjustments in the first months — a hinge, a drawer tension, a seasonal movement — are part of the project, not an added call-out.

Where do you work?

Greater Los Angeles — from Malibu and the Palisades through Beverly Hills, Bel Air and Hancock Park, down the coast and into the inland neighbourhoods we serve regularly.

Projects outside Los Angeles are considered case by case. Please mention the location when you request a consultation.

Can we visit a showroom?

We work by appointment. Our Los Angeles studio and workshop can be visited privately — a good moment to see finish samples, hardware, and work in progress. Please request an appointment through the contact form below.
